Markus Schulz - Do You Dream: The World Tour Documentary

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a94/ImpactPlayaz/MarkusForum/DoYouDreamDVD.jpg

There comes a time in every high calibre recording artist’s career when they reach the landmark of their first DVD release. For the 8th biggest DJ in the world, that time is now…

After a 2-year production process, the start of summer 2010 saw Markus Schulz drop the curtain on his third artist album ‘Do You Dream?’ Equipped with 17 new productions, he took the critically acclaimed music on a world tour, personally introducing it to 100s of 1000s of clubbers around the globe. Through 18 countries, and over a 3-month period, a documentary team captured this journey. Their directive were simple: ‘shoot everything, miss nothing’... and that’s exactly what they did.

The outcome of that lens odyssey is ‘Markus Schulz - Do You Dream? - The World Tour Documentary’ and it takes you, the viewer inside Markus’ professional life for the first time. Up close and at times personal, the camera captures his thoughts pre-gig in the ready-rooms, follows him through the anticipation of the backstage tunnels and up onto the stages of electronic dance music biggest, most celebrated events. Nature One, Sunrise, Dance Valley, Tomorrowland, Pleasure Island, Future Music - they’re all here, their crowd-generated electricity caught in HD. If you’ve been to one, you’ll want to see them all! From Amnesia nights, filmed from the pulpit to tornado-hit festivals in Russia and two-gigs-in-a-day dashes across Australia, you’re with him every step, jolt, rush and drumbeat of the way!

It also records Markus during rare downtime, which finds him everywhere from Vegas wedding chapels to wildlife parks in the outback. Break-of-dawn starts in home base Miami and late night, post-gig crash-outs at his European base in Berlin. The documentary also finds Markus talking frankly about the stresses and strains that 150 gigs a year places on an international DJ and talking about the revelation that touched his personal life two years ago.

Markus’ travelogue exploits on the DVD are naturally soundtracked by the incredible, extraordinary ‘Do You Dream’ album audio. You can see him roll out D.Y.D. floor-quakers, sometimes for the first time, and see the floor reaction. ‘Not The Same’, ‘Away’, ’65.4hz’, ‘Dark Heart Waiting’, Surreal’, ‘Alpha State’, ‘Unsaid’ are all on there and the DVD also includes the full official videos for ‘Dark Heart Waiting’, ‘Rain, ‘Future Cities’ and ‘Do You Dream’.

If you saw Markus Schulz play live anywhere in the latter part of 2010, this is the DVD you’re going to want to see and own.

Do You Dream: The World Tour Documentary will be released through Armada Music on Friday May 13th.

With all that filming in his gigs last year I did expect this would be a material for a kind of video-blog to summarise the tour. Had already burried my hopes for anything of the kind, thinking I expect from people to much LOL... when.... BOOM! Now THAT's a *DoYouDream*!...lol...:)

I can imagine it all nicely wrapped with cunning comments on InSearchOf(new headphones) moments, rushing from/to plane straight to gigs (playing Turbulence in the background...LOL...), floor-'vandals' captured under Perception influence, and all the other Sleepwalking:

Alpha State - in the Brazillian CheeseBread remix
What Could Have Been - Turkey Fans Big Room recon in the Nick'in MemoryStick remix
Surreal - the View from my Hotel Room recon....
:)

If Markus is doing something - it simply *cannot* be bad.... (...no pressure ;) )
Deffinitely getting it.

The word from Armada about the DVD format is "Region Free PAL".

I'm not an expert in this particular area, but hopefully this means it should still play without any problems in North America.

Unfortunately though, there will not be a BluRay release.

Thank you for the information. Region Free PAL usually means that the disc will play in any DVD player.

Any idea if the DVD will see a release in the US (E.g. via Amazon, etc), so that we don't have to have it shipped over the pond? If Armada will be the only point of release then I'll pre-order now, but if there will be a US point for shipping I'll wait.

Region Free PAL usually means that the disc will play in any DVD player.
It will play in any DVD player that supports PAL output format and will be viewable on any TV that can handle PAL format.

While many modern DVD players support both PAL and NTSC nowadays the vast majority of TV's in North America is still limited to NTSC format.

modthispny
05-05-11, 10:35 PM
as mentioned above, even though it's region free, PAL will give us issues as it has to be NTSC format. unless you buy a PAL dvd player.

this really sucks because i really want this dvd..would hate to have to resort to other options to see it.

this is just silly for the US market.

if you don't release it in NTSC then 99% of the people in the US who want the disc are going to download a converted torrent rip the day the DVD is released.

if memory serves me correctly, however - if the disc is region free and you have a decent DVD player on your PC (WINdvd, etc.), then the movie *WILL* play on your PC/Laptop.

Solution - get the movie on iTUNES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, just like Armin's movie.

The DVD arrived at my crib this afternoon, i watched it, and here's my review:

When you think about a documentary, u would think about additional info, interesting stuff u otherwise wouldnt have known. In this one, there isnt any, at least not for me. The documentary is quite short for a dvd, around 60 minutes, where I expected full versions off the tracks from the album, it were just little pieces sometimes. The gig registrations are very very short, too short for what i would like to see off it. Stuff like the MOS solo set, Dancevalley etc really got like 2-3 minutes max :( The documentary also seems very fast in terms of footage switches from: hey now were here, 2 seconds later were on the other side of the globe. The camerawork is ok, but with every gig it's the same, stage, hot girls, overview, end. Quite boring in my opinion. Overall the DVD is ok for me, but i expected way more of it. I wanted to hear more in depth stories about Markus himself, gigs etc, also I would have liked that the gig registration was quite a bit longer then it turned out to be, I thought about 5-6 minutes for each gig with the full version of a album track in the background, not 2-3 minutes with only the climax pieces of each track. I think i can only hope that Markus gets a solo set captured for a multi hour dvd about 1 gig, with the crowd etc, like an extended worldtour set, but then on your tv screen! The total DVD feels a bit like a rush, not so happy with it.
overall rating: 6/10 :|
Mentioning Darren in the credits was nice to see btw ;)
* Am sorry that am quite critical about it, but i expected something totally different  *

I got my copy in the mail a few days ago.

As a testing the waters documentary DVD, this is good. I hope that the reaction to this production is good enough to warrant a follow up, something more comprehensive I should say.

I think for a follow up DVD, they should focus on some of the WT editions, including brief interviews with the fans attending the gigs, shots of the lines outside the club, more time behind the decks, and a flavoring of the tunes played at each gig.

Also, a brief introduction of the number #8 Dj in the world and a recap to where got to be today, perhaps a brief view of how the label is run, maybe show Markus in the studio for a GDJB episode recording. Also show interviews that Markus does, a bit of some personal with how he keeps in touch with his family and friends when out on the road.

Overall, the DYD DVD gives us a nice glimpse of Markus hectic tour schedule, and I truly hope this was used to gauge the response for hopefully another DVD showcasing more of everything.
All in all, I enjoyed it, and look forward to another Markus Schulz Documentary.

Just noticed myself partying in Moscow, and it recalled me one story I keep deep in my heart. Here it is.
Just a couple of days before the show, Markus released a 30-min long album preview on youtube. I'd been listening to it over and over many times, but there was one track I just felt in love with. It was "Lightwave".
The gig was on 5th of June and album was not released yet (neither was the track), but I eagered to hear it in it's entirety and decided to print the name of a song on a paper and took it to the club. I had a very slight belief that Markus would play it, because of 3 reasons: the show was recorded for the next week's GDJB and this slow track just don't fit it; this track is also not supposed to be played at gigs; and last - the album is was not released yet and track should have been kept in a secret.
Can you imagine how shocked I was, when Markus eventually played Lightwave as the encore?! Was it a dream?

Thank you Markus for that gift!

Watched the dvd too and for the next one I'd advise more depth, right now it's all a bit quick. ;) Then there's this awesome part where Markus says:

"there are rumours that William Shakespeare didn't actually write his own stuff, can you believe that? Didn't write his own stuff, it's kinda like some other artist that we know. Ha!"

Who could he have mentioned, Armin?
